Hidden Peak

Hidden Peak is in the Lakeshore Acadamy gymnastics gym. Their address is 937 W. Chesnut, and their phone number is (312)563-9400. It is primarily a bouldering gym which means that the best climbing is below 14 feet and you don't need ropes. However if you want to go up, you can rope in.

Opening Times

weekdays-12 to 2 and 5 to 8 or 9
sat 12 to 6
sun 12 to 4

Directions by Public

It is really easy to get to on public transportation. You just take the blue line to the Chicago stop. You will be on Chicago street and you need to get to chesnut street. so you walk northeast, past a huge church, under the metra tracks and towards a bunch of bright orange industrial machinery. Right when you think you are totally lost you are there. On Chesnut street you can see the gymnastic gyms blue entry way with a gymnast on it.

Directions by Car

By car it is easy as well. Take LSD north until you get to the chicago exit. Go west down chicago street until you pass Halstead. You can take the second right(sangamon) and drive north down it until you see the orange industrial machinery. The church will be on your left. There is lots of free parking.

By Bike

Take the Lakefront bike path to the Chicago Street underpass(near the Hancock building. Bike west down Chicago (for about 10-15 min.s in traffic) to the first bridge after Halstead. Take the next right after the bridge (Sangamon) which is a rough street, follow it to the end(Chesnut) and turn left(east). Go through the parking lot to the building with the blue awning with the picture of the gymnast on it.

Costs

One time is $10 evenings or weekends, or $7 weekdays at lunch. Ten punch pass is $80. Probably U of C students get a 15% discount on both monthly passes ???. You can share your 10 punch pass as well. So the trick is to go with somebody with a pass and pay them 6 bucks to climb and use their pass. Also rental of gear costs $4.

I work at this gym so I am biased for it. This is primarily a boulding gym with the bulk of the action taking place 14ft and below. You can rope up if you want to though. This gym has the tightest climber community active in it and has the best routes of any public gym in the city. It is easy to get to by public transpotation and the instructions of how to get there are listed on the oac web page. It is cheap($10) and there is a discount for u of c students when they get a transferrable 10 punchpass(roughly 6.50 a time) -- is this still true????
