Climbing at Devil's Lake
Hiking
Devil's Lake has 29.9 miles of trails, all of which are open for hiking in spring, summer, and fall. There's a 1-mile interpretive nature trail and 1.5 miles of trail that are accessible for people with disabilities
Biking
The park also has 8.0 miles of off-road bike trails. A state trail pass is required for bikers age 16 and older.
Cross-Country Skiing
In winter, there are 22.4 miles of cross-country ski trails, with four different loops marked for beginner, moderate, or advanced classic-style skiers, along with a section for skate-skiing. The ski trails start in the Steinke Basin meadow, then wind their way through oak, ash, hickory, and maple forests.
Camping
Resevations can be made online through the Devil's Lake website. If the Devil's Lake sites are full, there are several privately owned campsites nearby. 1-800-WI PARKS will get you through to the Devils Lakes parks. Showers (cold) and toilet facilities are available at the park for free. Cost etc. for some private grounds is summarised below:
- Double KD Ranch, $15 per tent, 608 356 4622, infested with mossies, camping area is beside a pond!
- Wheelers $9 pppn, 608 356 4877, No groups bigger than 6
- Red Oak $8 pppn, 608 356 7304
- Merry Mac's $9.50 pppn, ($5 for school groups), 608 493 2367, 1 mile from south shore of lake
- Green Valley, $5 pppn, 608 355 0090, no showers, only pit toilets
In addition to the great outdoors provided by Mother Nature, nearby in Baraboo is the Circus World Museum which is supposed to be a hoot!
