Hey everybody, I hope you're all coming to the Dunes this Saturday!! If you plan to come, drop me a line so we can get a headcount. (This is a club trip, but you DON'T have to be a member to come--bring your friends!) We'll be leaving around 10am Saturday morning, coming back around 4:45 (but you can come back earlier/later if you want). Total cost will be $12/person.

Here are the specifics for the trip:

10:00am:
Leave Hyde Park via Metra/South Shore line, from the 57th St station. (Please note that while there are other Metra stops in Hyde Park, the South Shore line to the Dunes does NOT stop at them--meet at 57th!!) The train leaves at 10:14am--plan to get there about 15 minutes ahead of time so we can all meet up and go together. Don't be late--the next train isn't for another 2 hours!

Train fare:
You can buy a one-way "weekend excursion" pass for $5.50. You'll have to pay for it on board the train, as the vending machines do not sell these passes. (Also note that it's one-way--you'll have to buy another on the way back.)

11:20am:
Arrive at the Dunes! Admission to the park is $1/person. Be sure to bring food for lunch and snacks, as well as a bottle of water. Dress appropriately for the weather--right now the forecast is 66 and sunny, but it may be windy. You can check the weather yourself--look up Chesterton, IN. Also, wear sunscreen! (OAC cannot be held responsible for future skin cancer.)

Coming home:
Trains leave the Dunes at 1:41pm, 3:41, 5:41pm, etc. We'll probably leave at 3:41, but don't feel pressured to conform to that. The return trip is just over an hour.

The park is also accessible by car. It's easiest to take the skyway (expect to pay $3 in tolls each way) to the 94, although you can go around. Admission is $8 per vehicle, and it takes about the same amount of time to drive as to take the train (~1 hour each way).
